There are 13 disabilities that qualify a student for special education services under IDEA: autism, deafness, hearing loss, blindness, visual impairment, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, emotional disturbance, multiple disabilities, and deaf-blindness.

If a student does not have one of the 13 IDEA-qualified disabilities but still needs special education services in order to access the general education curriculum, he or she may be eligible for service under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

BIP Services
