What is secondary education?

Secondary education generally refers to the last four years of schooling, from grade 9 to grade 12. In some countries, secondary education includes primary education; in others, it begins after primary school. The main purpose of secondary education is to prepare students for tertiary education (i.e., postsecondary education, such as college or university). However, secondary education also aims to provide students with skills and knowledge that will enable them to enter the workforce.
